How to Harness City Energy
Primary Use
To harness the power of your city for magickal purposes.
You Will Need
Find Appropriate Energy
Different types of energy are alive in different areas of the city. Depending on the type of energy you want to harness, here are some suggestions of places you can explore:
Again, these are just suggestions. The type of energy you harness from a location will depend mostly on the type of energy that you sense the most when you visit a location. You are encouraged to explore your city and explore the energies that you perceive within it.
Harness the Energy
When you have found an area in your city alive with the type of energy you would like to harness, go to that location and look around the area for the small item(s) you can take from the location. As you hunt for an appropriate item(s) to take, recite to yourself this magick prayer:
“Holy Death, oh Holy Death,
Hear me pray, grant this request.
Bless me so that I may find,
Part of this place to be mine.
What I take alive it be,
With the energy I seek.”
Carry the item(s) with you back to your Santa Muerte altar, where you will perform the rest of this petition.
At Your Altar
At your Santa Muerte altar, first use the pick or pin to scratch into the wax of the candle the name or address of the location from where you are attempting to harness energy. This should be the same place from where you took the small item(s) mentioned in the previous step. Next, light the offering candle so you may perform the rest of this work in its light. If the item from the location is not already in the jar, then place it in the jar, followed by the small magnet. Close the lid on the jar, then recite over the jar three times this magick prayer:
“Living energy I pray,
Blessed by Death, Santa Muerte,
From the place that this piece came,
Living energy the same.
Magick power harnessed here,
By Saint Death now always near.”
Leave the closed jar to rest in the light of the candle until the candle burns to completion.
Using the Stored Energy
When the candle has burned to completion, you can consider the harnessed energy to be ready for use. A good way to treat this energy is like a spiritual battery of sorts, a spiritual battery that stores energy, disperses energy, and continues to attract energy (because of the presence of the magnet).
Here are some suggestions for using the energy you have harnessed:
When you wish to draw power from the energy harnessed, for example to employ one of the suggestions just provided, recite the following prayer:
“In the name of Death I pray,
From this energy I take.”
Next, make a clear statement of intent that aligns with your goals. You could say, for example:
“Charge this charm to bring me academic success,” or “Fill this space with the energy of love,” or “Send [Target’s Name] the energy of healing and wellness.”
You can access the harnessed energy for as long as you think is appropriate. When you are done drawing upon the energy, simply undo any actions you took to activate or pull from it. In other words, if you opened the jar, then close it. If you placed something into the jar, then remove it.
To harness the power of your city for magickal purposes.
You Will Need
- Jar with Lid - to store the energy harnessed from your city.
- Item from the Location - from where you want to harness energy. The item should be small enough to fit inside the jar with lid. The item can be something natural from the area, such as a stone, small handful of dirt, or amount of water that you can take from the area (the water can come from a sink or drinking fountain on the property as well). It can also be something unique to the area, such as a receipt or invoice given after a purchase. If available, you can use more than one item, such as by combining a small stone with a receipt, or sprinkling a pinch of dirt into a small amount of water.
- Small Magnet - to continuously attract the type of energy that you want to harness. To create a perpetual source of the desired energy.
- 1 Offering Candle - to appeal to Santa Muerte. You can match the color of the candle to the intent of the energy you hope to harness. In the tradition of Santa Muerte, the color white corresponds to peace, harmony, and the home, but it can also serve as a general purpose or substitute color when other colors are not available. The color black corresponds to curses, hexes, and magickal attacks (both sending and receiving). The color red corresponds to love, passion, sex, and attraction. Pink corresponds to beauty and self love. Gold corresponds to money, business success, and financial prosperity. Silver or copper correspond to good luck, such as would be pursued by gamblers and card players. The color green corresponds to matters of law and justice, as well as fertility. Blue corresponds to wisdom and creativity. Purple corresponds to psychic abilities, intuition, and the land of dreams. Yellow corresponds to health and healing. Brown corresponds to matters of death, spirits of the dead, and necromancy.
- Thin Etching Tool - like a pick or pin, to scratch into the wax of the candle the name or address of the location from where you want to harness energy.

Here are some suggestions for using the energy you have harnessed:
- Place small magick charms into the jar to charge them with energy and intention. For example, you can place a talisman to help you pass school exams into a jar containing energy harnessed from a college campus.
- Open the jar and place it at your Santa Muerte altar, or on a window sill, or in the corner of a room, to fill the space with the harnessed energy. Think of it like energetic incense.
- Place a target link, something that represents a person, into the jar, to send to that person the type of energy harnessed. A target link can be anything that represents the person. In the past a common option was a lock of hair, or nail clippings, but these will likely be difficult to get unless you are in a very close personal relationship with the person. These days, more common options include a photo of the person printed off a social media profile, the person’s business card, or just a piece of paper with two or three bits of identifying information (name, birthdate, phone number, email address, social media handle, et cetera).
When you wish to draw power from the energy harnessed, for example to employ one of the suggestions just provided, recite the following prayer:
