Single Coin Reading
There are many ways to interpret the Coins of Holy Death, and casting all 14 coins is only one method out of many. In addition to casting all 14 coins, you are also free to pluck and interpret one single coin in order to gain insight into one single question.
To read a single coin, hold the bag of coins, or the coins alone, in your hand, and mix them gently as you focus on the question about which you are inquiring. One word of advice is to avoid yes or no questions. Rather than asking a yes or no question, ask something like, “What can I expect if I do this?” Or, “What will be the result if I go through with that?”
Another option is to not ask a question at all, and to let the coins reveal the influence which is most at work in your life right now. To do this, gently mix the coins in your hand as just explained, but instead of focusing on a specific question, try instead to clear your mind, and focus on nothing at all.
When the coins are well mixed and the question is in focus, or when your mind is sufficiently calm and clear, then recite the following magick prayer over the coins:
“Santa Muerte, oh so wise,
Open your purse, to open my eyes.
Magick coins in my hand,
Psychic wisdom may you grant.”
Next, reach into the collection of coins and pluck a single coin from the set. If you focused on a question, then interpret the symbol on this coin in light of that question. If you did not focus on a question, then consider this coin a sign of the influence which is most at work in your life right now.
Sometimes, the answer to a question will not seem very clear after plucking a single coin. In these cases, you can pluck another single coin in order to clarify the message which the coins are trying to convey. You would then interpret these two coins together, with the first coin considered to have the most influence over, or to weigh on, the second coin.
If the message from the coins is still not immediately clear after you have selected an additional clarifying coin, you are advised to give the two coins more thought, and spend some time reflecting or meditating on the potential message the coins are trying to convey. What does not seem obvious at first may come to make sense as you give the coins more thought.
Since this is technically a single coin reading, I would not pull more than two coins - the first primary coin, and, only if necessary, a second clarifying coin. If you want more depth or insight than these two coins can offer, then you are advised to consider another coin reading technique, like the casting of all 14 coins, or a three coin reading which will be described in the next chapter.
In the event that you pluck The Pointer coin from the set, you can set this coin aside and pull another coin. Remember that The Pointer is the only coin with no value, and is used purely to indicate the direction in which the coin should be interpreted when all 14 coins are cast.
