"Sins of the Father" Healing Petition
Primary Use
To help you heal the spiritual wounds caused by evil, sadistic, racist, or criminal ancestors. While the sins of the father are never the sins of the son, it is quite common to feel guilty for crimes or atrocities committed by our ancestors. If you need help healing from spiritual wounds caused by your ancestors, then this petition is for you.
Remember, this petition does not mean that you accept responsibility for the evil deeds of your ancestors, only that you recognize the modern day ripple effects those deeds might have created, and that you voluntarily desire to help soften the effects of those ripples in your life and in your community.
You Will Need
Prepare Your Pouch of Salt
At your Santa Muerte altar, light the yellow offering candle so you may work in its light. Pour the salt into the pouch, just enough to fill the pouch but still be able to close it shut. Place the pouch of salt at or near your altar so it can rest in the light of the candle’s flame. Over the pouch of salt, recite the below included “Sins of the Father” Healing magick prayer, at least nine times.
Let the pouch of salt rest in the light of the yellow offering candle until the candle burns to completion.
Carry the Pouch of Salt
When the yellow offering candle has burned to completion, then you can begin carrying the pouch of salt with you on a regular basis. Let the pouch of salt serve as a reminder to do and be better than your ancestors.
Perform Acts of Kindness
As you carry the pouch of salt on your person, look for opportunities to perform acts of kindness for others, especially individuals from the social classes or groups that might be feeling the consequences of past evil or criminal deeds. These acts of kindness can be as big or as small as you can manage. Following the performance of an act of kindness for another person, when you have the chance to be alone, open the pouch of salt and use two fingers to remove a pinch of salt from the pouch. Sprinkle this pinch of salt over the Earth, and as you do, again recite the below included “Sins of the Father” Healing magick prayer.
Final Thoughts
The deeds of the past have come and gone, and as much as we might like to undo them, or undo their consequences, the fact is that there is no going back. The best we can do now, in the present, is to work to make sure that terrible deeds are not repeated.
If you are successful at emptying the pouch of all the salt that it once carried, then listen to your heart and your intuition about what you should do next. If this petition has helped you realize that you are not your ancestors, that the sins of the father are not the sins of the son, and if this petition has helped you realize that you are a good person who is capable of doing good in the world, then you may feel as if there is no more need to perform this petition again, with a brand new pouch of salt. If, on the other hand, you still feel burdened by the negative actions of your ancestors, then you may decide to perform this petition again, refilling your pouch with salt, and starting over at the beginning. You are free to repeat this petition as often as you think is necessary.
“Sins of the Father” Healing Magick Prayer
Holy Death, now hear this song,
Ancestors of mine now gone,
Those who did the worst of all,
Death now heal the wounds they caused.
Though their deeds may not be mine,
Unforgotten still to time.
May these actions which I take,
Help to heal in present day.

You Will Need
- Salt - to represent the salt of tears which have been shed because of the negative actions of ancestors. Each individual salt crystal represents the known and unknown consequences, the persistent ripple effects, of those negative actions.
- Small Pouch - to carry the salt. Represents the emotional and spiritual burdens you feel as the descendant of people who did bad things. Literally the "baggage" you carry.
- 1 Yellow Offering Candle - to appeal to the energy of the Santa Muerte cloaked in yellow, who is associated with healing at all levels; physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. While the color brown is commonly associated with the spirits of departed ancestors, the person seeking healing in this case is not a spirit yet, and yellow is commonly associated with health and healing, so black is recommended. But as mentioned in the introduction, every aspect of Santa Muerte is the same Santa Muerte, so do not be afraid to petition whatever color / aspect that your intuition draws you to.
