Spirit Cross Over Petition
Primary Use
To help the spirit of a friend or loved one complete the journey from the Land of the Living to the Land of the Dead. For spirits that you are familiar with, who you think are stuck in transition, and who may not realize that they have died.
You Will Need
Preparations
At your Santa Muerte altar, light the brown offering candle so you may work in the light of its flame.
If not already done, take the picture of the deceased person, or the paper with their name, and mark the top of it with the letters RIP, and mark the bottom of it with the person’s date of birth and date of death, just as these dates might appear on a tombstone. Place this picture or paper in the picture frame, then stand the picture frame next to the burning candle.
Create a Magick Powder
Next, place a small amount of copal and a small amount of sage into your mortar, then use the pestle to grind and incorporate the ingredients together. You ultimately want enough of a mixture to sprinkle a circle around the base of the brown offering candle, plus a small amount to sprinkle over the picture frame.
As you grind and incorporate the copal and sage, recite and meditate on the Spirit Cross Over magick prayer, which is found below. Praying over the herbs while you incorporate them together will help you focus the energy of your magick toward the desired intent of helping the departed spirit complete the transition into the Land of the Dead. Be careful of breathing in the dust of the herbs as you grind, as it may cause irritation.
Sprinkle the Powder
When the copal and sage are well incorporated, sprinkle the mixture, pinch by pinch, around the base of the brown offering candle. This is to represent surrounding the offering candle with your desired intent of helping the named spirit to complete their journey from this life into the next. When the base of the candle is surrounded in a circle of sage and copal, sprinkle pinch by pinch what remains of your mixture over the picture frame, which should be positioned next to the candle. As you sprinkle the copal and sage around the candle and over the picture frame, continue to recite the below included Spirit Cross Over magick prayer.
Let the Candle Burn
When you have sprinkled your mixture of copal and sage around the base of the candle and over the picture frame, you may continue to recite the magick prayer in the light of the burning candle as you meditate on your intent of helping the departed person to complete their journey into the beyond - you can do this for as long as feels comfortable and / or necessary. Allow the candle to remain on your altar, shining its light onto the picture frame, until it burns to completion.
You may repeat this petition as many times as you need until you feel that the targeted spirit has finally departed from the Land of the Living.
Spirit Cross Over Magick Prayer
Spirit of our loved one dear,
See this work and know it clear,
Know it clear that you are dead,
All your pain of life is shed.
Do not fear the Great Beyond,
Cross the bridge in peace and calm.
Though your time of life is done,
Something new has just begun.
Cross now you into the light,
Go and see that all is fine.
Hear this prayer of mine, Saint Death,
Show this spirit now to rest.
To help the spirit of a friend or loved one complete the journey from the Land of the Living to the Land of the Dead. For spirits that you are familiar with, who you think are stuck in transition, and who may not realize that they have died.
You Will Need
- Copal - known as a powerful spiritual protector and purifier, copal has a long history in Mexico for its connection to the dead. Used here to attract the attention of the departed spirit, so they may begin to understand that their time in the Land of the Living has come to an end. As mentioned in the introduction of this book, it is best to keep your copal frozen until you need it. Refer to the introduction for more notes on this topic.
- Sage - herb for wisdom; also removes and repels negative energy / cleanses physical areas. Used here to grant spiritual wisdom to the departed that they realize that crossing over is natural and necessary. Also to help the energy of the spirit to let go of the physical world so they may complete their journey and move more freely into the Land of the Dead.
- Picture of the Departed Person - to represent the spirit of the deceased. If a picture is not available, then write the person's name on a piece of paper. At the top of the picture or paper, write in bold letters "RIP," to represent "rest in peace." At the bottom of the picture or paper, write the person's date of birth, followed by their date of death - just as this information might appear on a tombstone. This is to convey the message to the spirit of the departed person that they are in fact no longer alive.
- Standing Picture Frame - to hold the picture of the departed person, or the paper bearing the spirit's name.
- Mortar and Pestle - to grind and incorporate the ingredients together.
- 1 Brown Offering Candle - to appeal to the energy of the Brown Cloaked Santa Muerte who exercises power beyond the grave, over the spirits of the departed, and who facilitates communication between the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead.
