Recommended reading for anyone interested in learning more about the Santa Muerte. You don't have to agree with everything a writer says - each relationship with Santa Muerte is unique. Take what works and leave what doesn't. All of these books are available on Amazon. Use the links below to make a purchase and I'll earn a small commission.
Santa Muerte Prayer Magick:
Affordable Santa Muerte Magick You Can Do Anywhere
By: Arnold Bustillo
If you're someone who doesn't have access to ritual tools like herbs and candles, or even a space in which to practice your magick, then this book is for you. This book will teach you how to petition the Santa Muerte through the power of prayer alone, and features several prayers not published anywhere else. Devoted to Death: Santa Muerte, The Skeleton Saint
By: R. Andrew Chestnut, PhD.
R. Andrew Chestnut received his PhD in Latin American history, and is a professor of religious studies. Dr. Chestnut approaches the Santa Muerte as an outsider and an academic researcher. He conducts several interviews with devotees that help dispel many common misconceptions about Holy Death. He has no affiliation with this website, but I do recommend his book. La Santa Muerte: Unearthing the Magic & Mysticism of Death
By: Tomas Prower
This is a book you'll either love or hate. When I first read it, I appreciated how it uncoupled Santa Muerte devotion from its deeply Catholic history. Where it gets a bad rap is how it merges Santa Muerte devotion with modern Pagan, sometimes Wiccan, ideology. Considering how many devotees come to Santa Muerte through Paganism or Wicca, it's at least worth a read. Prower has no affiliation with this website, but I do recommend his book.
