In the Tarot de la Santa Muerte, the card "La Sacerdotisa" depicts a young, authoritative priestess of Santa Muerte. She is dressed in white and adorned with a bright red cape, and is shown lifting up a cup in offering to the heavens. She wears a Crown of Isis atop her head and a moon shaped amulet around her neck. Towering over our priestess is the image of the white cloaked Santa Muerte carrying an owl and holding a candlestick. La Sacerdotisa stands between pillars of fire, black pillars to one side and white to the other. Just beyond La Sacerdotisa is the imagery of clouds, and she appears to be standing just in front of a veil or curtain being lifted - the veil or curtain is actually the flowing cape of the Santa Muerte towering above.

Symbolism: 

La Sacerdotisa represents mastery over wisdom, symbolized by the owl on Santa Muerte's arm and the crown of Isis on La Sacerdotisa's head, which itself is a symbol of the wisdom learned through the three stages of life - youthhood, adulthood, and elderhood. She also represents pure intuition, as symbolized by the lit candle in Santa Muerte's hand (to illuminate the truth), and the moon symbol around La Sacerdotisa's neck, a symbol of intuition and enlightenment. Her white cloak represents purity and goodness, and her red cloak establishes her authority. The cup she lifts in offering to the Santa Muerte represents the Sacerdotisa's authority in matters of spirit - for it is her who makes the offering to the heavens, nobody else. The fact that she appears to be standing in front of a curtain being pulled back represents her prominence and role as gatekeeper into the other world - for it is through her we must go in order to see beyond the veil of life, into the realm of the Santa Muerte. The fire symbolism on the card, notably the fire above the pillars surrounding La Sacerdotisa, represents creation, destruction, and transformation. The fact that half the pillars are white and the other half black represents that the creation, destruction, or transformation can be positive or negative - but La Sacerdotisa does not worry because she is a master at divining the future and trusts her intuition.

In a Reading Upright:

La Sacerdotisa represents intuition, hidden knowledge, and introspection. If you are struggling with a decision, take time to meditate seriously and trust your inner intuition. Something unknown will become known, and it could create, destroy, or transform. Now is a good time to practice divination in order to learn further insight into the future, and to trust your psychic visions, dream symbols, and other forms of intuition. Also a good time for more advanced mystical work like necromancy or contacting "beyond the veil".

The wisdom and knowledge represented by this card in the upright position represents secrets, gossip, and other hidden agendas while in reverse. Pay attention for people beating around the bush and those attempting to keep secrets or hide things from you.
