A simple New Year 9-day novena prayer ritual for Santa Muerte devotees. Background: A novena prayer is generally accepted to be a prayer or set of prayers recited in sets of nine. The prayer could be recited nine times in a row, over nine days, across nine weeks, or even across nine months. For devotees of Santa Muerte, a novena prayer ritual can serve as an act of devotion, an act of petition, or both. The novena prayer ritual that follows is intended to be recited over the last nine days of the year, to bid farewell to this year and to usher in the next. This prayer ritual serves as both a sign of devotion, to show the Santa Muerte that you are acknowledging her presence in your life, and also as an act of petition, to ask the various aspects of Santa Muerte to shine specific blessings on your life in the year ahead. Basics: If you are using the Gregorian calendar, then the Day 1 prayer can be recited on December 23rd, and the Day 9 prayer can be recited on December 31st, but this novena can be recited on the last nine days of any calendar system. There is no physical item you need to perform this nine day novena prayer for the new year, but you are free to recite the prayer at your Santa Muerte altar, and / or light a candle to Santa Muerte to accompany each day of prayer. For an added act of devotion, you can recite each prayer nine times on the appropriate day, or you may recite the Santa Muerte Rosary after each daily prayer. As always, you are free to perform this prayer ritual however you want, and to incorporate it into any other celebrations or devotional acts that you would like. Day 1: Santa Muerte, dressed in white, shine your blessings on my life. A steady ship through any storm, gentle flame to keep me warm. Peace and comfort fill the air, as we march into next year. With your presence in my life, I know all will go just right. Bless the loved ones in my home, bless the people that I know. Bless them just like you bless me, Death deliver harmony. Day 2: Santa Muerte, cloak of black, keep me safe from all attacks. As next year does fast approach, may no curse or hex encroach. Any evil sent my way, send it back from where it came. May all those with malintent, spend this new year impotent. Faithful Death, by magick scythe, with your power, guard my life. in the new year that we face, please keep me and mine all safe. Day 3: Santa Muerte, wearing red, fill with love the year ahead. May you clear this path I'm on, so I get the love I want. Love from others, and from self, give me love that fills my world. Holy Death, of you I ask, make it true, and make it last. All my loved ones, near and far, keep us always in your heart. Shine on us from up above, A light that glows, bright with love. Day 4: Holy Death, of golden robes, guide me toward all open roads. Open roads all up ahead, so that I may reap success. With success may I be crowned, so there's always cash around. Always cash to buy the things, things I want, and things I need. More than things, bring peace of mind, peace of mind for me and mine. Death bless us with comfort true, as we see the next year through. Day 5: Cloak of yellow, Holy Death, good health now and up ahead. I pray to you, bless me with, body, mind, and soul wellness. For the ones within my home, only good health be here known. Keep us all, and please keep me, healthy, happy, and stress free. Santa Muerte, make it so, every day good health can flow. But if end of life is near, please grant comfort, with no fear. Day 6: Holy Death, in purple draped, with me may you please acquaint, signs and visions from beyond, psychic dreams, and future songs. In your hands, I do place mine, and respect you as my guide. Lantern of Death, bright as day, may you always light my way. Show me all I need to see, to bring out the best in me. As the new year does arrive, let my intuition thrive. Day 7: Santa Muerte, dressed in green, for justice, on you I lean. Scales of justice, balance well, for all, who in, my heart dwell. As I stand at this year's dawn, I pray you right, all past wrongs. In the year approaching quick, transgressions may you please fix. Everywhere I walk or stand, be made fertile by Death's hand, so the just and fair can bloom, while all others are entombed. Day 8: Holy Death, in cloak of blue, grant me earthly knowledge true. Bless me with inspired thoughts, good ideas, lots and lots. Santa Muerte, be my muse, inspiration be infused, into my life, night and day, in all I do, work or play. On this path which is my life, grant me wisdom to do right. To do right, by those I love, in this new year, and beyond. Day 9: Holy Death, in thanks I pray, for this year which you have gave. Very soon it will be gone, through it all, you kept me strong. In your name, and by your grace, I stood tall through struggles faced. Now I stand here ready for, one more year, and then one more. You with power over death, I thank you for every breath. Hear these words I pray to you, as you love me, I love you.
